About the event

Let’s cable together for my first Knit Boise class!

Oh cables. Friends, do not fear their classic beauty! Once we break it down, you’ll see how creating exquisite cable designs is more accessible for newer knitters than you think.

Trust me.

In this 1-session class, I’ll show you two cable techniques to use on this headband.

What we’ll make:

Hip hip hurrah for headbands! Headbands are a natural way to practice cable knitting because it’s short, repetitive, and a small-enough-project to see if you like the technique. In addition, I believe headbands are necessary to wear on a windy Idaho day in Spring. Protect those ears! (Says the Italian mother in me, who tells everyone to wear more wool.)

What I’ll teach and provide:

  • Cables (duh)
  • Overview of cable pattern reading (pattern provided)
  • Personalized instruction in a group setting
  • 10/10 energy to amp-up your cabling potential
  • Endless encouragement to help you thrive!
  • Pattern recommendations for future cabling
  • Access to video instruction, post-class

What you’ll bring

  • 1 ball of worsted weight yarn — I prefer “scruffier” non-superwash wool because it adds more body and form to the cable stitch.
  • Size 8 needles of any length, circular, or straight — Size 7 or 9 will also work. We can use what you have!
  • Cable needle — a cable needle can be a hook, a double-pointed-needle, or even a large paperclip. Cables can be knitted without a cable-needle with “scruffier” wool that holds its form
  • Water bottle to hydrate
  • Your favorite pen or pencil to take notes
  • Your beautiful smiles and positive energy!

Required Skills for Confident Beginners

You should feel comfortable knitting and purling. If you don’t feel comfortable yet, but really  want to take this class, then practice beforehand! Cast-on 30 stitches and make yourself a little wash-cloth.
